Compost & plant food – more info

Want to get the biggest crops or the best blooms? Make sure you get plants off to the best start with the right compost and then feed them well with a specialist plant food. Whether it’s citrus, house plants or onions that you’re growing, our range will give you a head start.

What kind of compost is best for which soil?

Mulching your garden with compost will help to retain moisture and improve the structure, opening up heavy soils and stopping sandy soils drying out in summer. Put a thick layer of one of our soil improvers or mulch over your borders in autumn or early spring.

Which plants like ericaceous compost?

Ericaceous compost is used for acid-loving plants such as rhododendrons, camellias and blueberries. If you don’t have acid soil in your garden, you can grow acid-lovers in a pot filled with ericaceous compost.

Can I overfeed plants?

Giving plants too much food can lead to yellowing leaves and damage to the roots. Too much nitrogen can lead to soft growth that is more likely to be damaged by pests and weather. Always follow the instructions on plant food carefully.
