Why buy bedding plants?

Bedding plants often grow quickly and bloom within a relatively short period of planting, meaning you don’t have long to wait to enjoy the results. In addition, since bedding plants are often annuals or tender perennials, you can cover seasonal changes in your garden design with ease.

How to plant bedding plants

Choose a sunny spot with well-draining soil and dig a hole slightly larger than the plant's root ball. Gently remove the plant from its container, loosen the roots, and place it in the hole at the same depth as it was in the pot or plug. Backfill with soil, firm gently, and water thoroughly.

How to look after bedding plants

After planting, water the bedding plant thoroughly, and continue to water regularly, especially during dry periods, but don’t waterlog the soil. Provide ongoing care as needed, including watering, fertilising and deadheading spent flowers to encourage continuous blooming.

When to plant summer bedding plants

It’s usually best to plant summer bedding plants in late spring or early summer, once the risk of frost has well and truly passed. Late May or early June are ideal.
