This unusual yellow Magnolia tree is large and conical in shape, producing lemon-yellow, goblet-shaped flowers in late spring, just as the leaves emerge. The foliage is dark green in colour and contrasts well with the flowers, fading to yellowy brown in autumn. Magnolia x brooklynensis 'Yellow Bird' will tolerate sun and part shade if grown in a neutral to acidic soil in a sheltered position. Height: 5m (16'). Spread: 3m (10').
Culinary note: The young flowers, once separated, can be pickled and then used either on their own as a treat or in salads.
