Geranium phaeum var. phaeum 'Samabor'

Geranium phaeum var. phaeum 'Samabor' is a beautiful and versatile woodland Geranium that thrives in shaded areas, even those with dry conditions. Ideal for adding natural charm to shady borders, it quickly develops into a dense mound of soft, finely divided foliage, adorned with deep maroon spots. This foliage provides excellent ground cover, effectively suppressing weeds throughout the year. In late spring to early summer, ‘Samabor’ produces an abundance of velvety maroon flowers that gracefully nod atop slender, upright stems, rising above the foliage. The deep purple blooms are especially striking when paired with bright yellow or golden-leaved plants like Heuchera or Carex. Plant geranium bareroots at the earliest opportunity following delivery. Should soil conditions prevent planting directly into borders (if soil is frozen or waterlogged), perennial geraniums should be potted up, watered sparingly and grown on in a cool position. Choose a sunny or semi shaded position on moist, well drained soil. Work some compost or general fertiliser into the top 20cm of the soil. Dig a hole wide enough to accommodate the bareroot with its roots spread out and deep enough that the crown of the plant is just a few cm below soil level. Backfill the hole with soil and firm the plant in gently. Water well to settle the soil.
