Height: 80cm (31in), Spread: 15cm (6in). Allium stipitatum: Tall, slender stems bear tightly packed globes with a flat base, composed of over 100 star-shaped, lilac-pink flowers. Height: 1.5m (5ft), Spread: 15cm (6in). Allium 'Mount Everest': Large, spherical blooms with more than 50 star-shaped white flowers. Height: 1.2m (4ft), Spread: 15cm (6in). Allium 'Magic': A hybrid of A. schubertii and A. atropurpureum, this unique allium features short-stemmed flowers at the center, surrounded by longer stems around the perimeter. Alliums thrive in light sandy, well drained soil in full sun. Avoid planting in cold wet soils as the bulbs are prone to rot in these conditions. Plant allium bulbs at a depth of 10cm (4") and a distance of 10cm (4") apart. A slow release fertilizer can be added to poor soils at the time of planting to improve fertility. When growing alliums, plant them where the leaves of other plants will cover the base of their stems. This will hide the old foliage which dies back before flowering begins.
