The cultivar Begonia masoniana 'Rock' is a more compact variety, with each vivid green leaf displaying a bold dark star-shaped pattern in the center, framed by a matching dark border, creating a captivating foliage effect. Delicate pale pink flowers add an extra touch of charm. For an eye-catching display, pair it with other variegated rex-type begonias like 'Fireworks' or 'Blackberry Swirl'. This plant reaches a height and spread of around 30cm (12") and thrives in shaded conditions. As a shade-tolerant houseplant, it offers unique, beautiful foliage year-round, with occasional blooms. It can also be placed outdoors during the warmer months to enjoy its full potential. Place your Begonia in a bright spot that is not in direct sunlight – an east or west-facing windowsill is ideal. Water regularly but avoid overwatering or letting the plant sit in water. Aim the water directly onto the compost, avoiding splashing the leaves as much as possible. Feed fortnightly between May and September with a plant food that is high in potassium (for cane-types where abundant flowering is most important) or high in nitrogen (for rex-type or foliage varieties). Reduce watering in winter, allowing the surface of the compost to begin to dry out before watering again. In winter keep your begonias above a minimum temperature of 13°C. Plants can be brought outside in summer once night temperature reliably exceeds this.
