Hibiscus plants – more info

Hibiscus is the perfect hardy shrub for adding some exotic colour to your garden, be it in a border or container. For smaller gardens, choose one of the ‘Little Legends’ varieties, which have a height and spread of 50cm. At the other end of the scale, the ‘French Cabaret’ series can get up to 2.5m tall.

Can you grow hibiscus in a container?

Smaller varieties of hibiscus can be grown in containers using a soil-based compost, such as John Innes No.3. Try one of the ‘Flower Tower’ varieties or the dwarf hibiscus ‘Little Legends Pink’.

Which is the latest hibiscus to flower?

One of the latest to flower is hibiscus ‘Woodbridge’ whose deep pink blooms appear from late summer into mid-autumn.

Are there any drought-tolerant varieties of hibiscus?

The ‘French Cabaret’ range is a good choice if you have free-draining or chalky soil, as these plants are drought-resistant once established.
