Perfect for small patios or balconies, this compact tree lets you enjoy fresh, home-grown pears even in limited space. Grafted onto a dwarf rootstock, it reaches a maximum height of around 1m, making it well-suited for large containers on sunny patios, terraces, or courtyards. Additionally, the tree features beautiful white blossoms in spring, offering an ornamental touch. The popular 'Conference' pear produces long, bell-shaped fruits with firm flesh and a smooth, juicy flavour. These fruits can be enjoyed either hard or fully ripe and are harvested late in the season, from October to November, with storage potential through January. On the other hand, the 'Doyenne du Comice' is renowned for its exquisite flavour and melt-in-the-mouth texture. The large, sweet fruits are ready for picking in early October and can be stored until December. These two varieties, which will pollinate each other, are as follows: 'Conference' (Pollination Group 3, partially self-fertile) and 'Doyenne du Comice' (Pollination Group 4, not self-fertile). Plant fruit trees in any well drained soil in a sheltered sunny position. Prior to planting, incorporate plenty of well rotted manure or garden compost into the planting hole and drive the stake into the ground to support the tree. Staking after planting may result in damage to the root ball. Plant fruit trees at their original soil level and firm them into the ground. Fasten the tree to the stake using a tree tie, and water well. Alternatively plant dwarf trees in a large tub using John Innes no.3 compost. Pears will produce the best crops when planted near to another pear tree to increase pollination.
