Adenium obesum Red is a striking and unique variety of Desert Rose, known for its vibrant cerise-red flowers. This eye-catching succulent has a distinctive, thick trunk—hence the species name obesum—which is actually a swollen root that sits above the soil surface, storing water to help it thrive in its native desert environment. Atop this fleshy trunk is a crown of glossy, spoon-shaped, leathery green leaves. Its overall look resembles that of a mythical mandrake, making it a fascinating plant even when not in bloom. The tree-like structure of Adenium obesum also makes it a favorite among bonsai enthusiasts. After 2-3 years, when it reaches a height of 15-20cm (6-8 inches), this plant will reward you with an abundance of pink-red, white-throated flowers. The five-petaled, tubular blooms, which measure 2-5cm, are larger than the plant itself, giving the Desert Rose the appearance of a miniature tree topped with oversized, tropical flowers that last all summer long. Adenium obesum Red is a low-maintenance plant that thrives on minimal attention. Like cacti, it prefers a bit of neglect—avoid overwatering and place it in a bright spot away from direct sunlight. It needs a minimum winter temperature of 10°C (50°F), during which time it will go dormant, shedding its leaves. New growth will appear in the spring. Known for being resistant to pests and diseases, this is an ideal houseplant for those who may not have a green thumb. Awarded the RHS Garden Merit, Adenium obesum Red is truly a rewarding and resilient plant. Maximum height: 30cm (12in). Spread: 20cm (8in). Please note: All parts of this plant are toxic, and the milky sap is an irritant. Keep it away from skin, eyes, and pets. Adenium obesum ‘Red’ is a gorgeous and unusual selection of the Desert Rose that boasts cerise-red flowers. Grow in bright light with some shelter from the hottest sun. An average temperature of 10- 25C (50-77F) is ideal. Water at intervals, allowing the compost to dry out between waterings. Never allow the plant to sit in water as this will cause the stem to rot. This Adenium stores water in its stem so it needs surprisingly little water during the growing season. Reduce watering and allow plants to go dormant and remain completely dry through winter. During this period it will drop all its leaves. This is a normal process and fresh new leaves will regrow in spring.House plants should be fed regularly between March and September when they are in active growth.

Live Plants

Dobies strives to ensure that all its plants are delivered to you in the perfect condition for planting. While the majority of our nursery plants cope well with slight delays in intransit, sadly, the time it takes to deliver to certain locations in the UK means that we can't guarantee this for some of our smaller plug products and tender bedding and vegetable lines, which do not respond well to the extra journey time. So regretfully while we offer the majority of our live plant offering nationwide, we are unable to ship plugs, begging plants and tender vegetable plants to the following areas: HS, IV41-IV49, IV51, IV55-56, KW15-KW17, PA34, PA41-48, PA60-PA78, PA80, PH40-PH44, TR21-TR24, ZE1-ZE3.

Non Standard Deliveries

Unfortunately like many companies in our industry we are currently only able to supply orders to UK based customers, excluding those in Northern Ireland. We are committed to finding a way that we can resume or normal services again as soon as possible. Please accept our apologies for any inconvience caused.

Prices include VAT where applicable.

We reserve the right to contact you and advise an additional charge where necessary and are happy to quote for carriage of specific products to more remote areas. Some items may not be available to all areas.

We reserve the right to revise any carriage charges in the event of carrier price increase or other unforeseen circumstances. We will always advise of the carriage charge before payment is taken.

All Dobies products should reach you in perfect condition, just as they left us. If you are dissatisfied in any way with their condition on arrival, please let us know within 14 days.
